So, you are learning to drive and wish to have your first car. Great! But are you aware of the basic systems that are present in the car? Read on to know more about the systems that work together and give you a smooth and risk free driving experience.
Gears
There are three types of gears that are present in a car – clutch, accelerator and brake.
Clutch – the clutch is associated with the left foot and is used to change the gears of the car. It moves the car from a resting position into forward or backward motion.
Brake – this is a tool which is placed near the right foot and helps the car to slow down or stop completely. The handbrake stops rolling backwards.
Accelerator – it is placed near the right foot and it is used to control the speed of the car.
Electronics
Having checked out the mechanical things in a car, you now have to focus on the electronic aspects of the car. These are quite easy to check for.
Wipers – these help clean the windscreen in the face of pouring rain and help you have a better view. Check both the front as well as the rear windscreens to see if they work properly.
Light controls – remember that you need to check your lights both front and rear so that you are not driving in the dark. Moreover other people need to be aware of your presence too.
Heat dials – heat dials put the heat inside your car and keep the car warm even in cold weather. Also, the heat will drive away the condensation that may form on the windscreen and give you a clear view.
Cannot decide between automatic and manual transmissions
If you are learning to drive it would be better for you to go for automatic transmission first. In this way you would be able to focus your attention on turning the steering wheel and master driving faster. If you are not that adept at carrying out two tasks at the same time then it is better for you to go ahead with automatic transmission cars. Then again if convenience or sports car like fashion inspires you then also you might consider going for automatic transmission systems instead of manual transmission.
Routine checking
Whenever you get a thing first, you tend to care for it more often. But this slowly dies down and if your car suffers this too, then it might not have a long life. Regularly check the front view and rear view mirrors and always adjust them before you start on any driving. Check the gear system and see if it is in neutral position. Finally, check up on the oil, tire pressure, brakes and door locks.
By the way don’t forget to tie your seat belts and drive.
Many experienced drivers of VW transporter t2 started their driving from basic and went on to become good drivers. The VW festival brings such drivers together from all over the country.
